Thailand is a fairly large country boasting lots of natural beauty, especially when you get outside the major cities. One of the best ways to explore these natural wonders is to take a road trip. Depending on your starting point, there are a number of exciting road trips that will show you some of the best of what the country has to offer.

From Bangkok to Phetchabun

This five-hour journey gives you the chance to escape the hectic pace of Thailand's capital. The drive will take you through beautiful countryside with minimal disruptions for the majority of the way. Much of the area you will traverse is made up of farmland and natural open spaces, so be sure to fill up on gas before you head out. The drive is relatively easy, and you won't have to worry about windy roads or heavy traffic once you get outside the city. When you arrive in Phetchabun, don't miss the chance to see the Wat Pha Sorn Kaew temple. This beautiful edifice is constructed almost entirely of beautiful mosaic tiles. It truly is an incredible sight.

From Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

This is one of the most popular road trips in Thailand, if not the most popular one of all. While many choose to take a guided tour on a bus, the four-hour drive will be far more enjoyable if you make the journey on your own. You'll travel through picturesque mountains and have the chance to stop at some of the region's many hot springs. Some are great for having a relaxing soak, while others are hot enough to boil an egg! You'll also pass through many mountain tea farming villages, so take the time to stop and have a cup before heading back out on the road. Your taste buds will thank you. Once you reach Chiang Rai, be sure to visit Wat Rong Khun, also called the White Temple. This gorgeous sight is one you won't soon forget!

From Nan to Nong Khai

Virtually empty roads on this long and scenic trip, the journey from Nan to Nong Khai is really overlooked by many. This ride is something else as it passes through some of the more verdant, green areas of Thailand, which is not densely populated. For communing with nature and seeing wild Thailand, this is the right ride to make. Nong Khai is right near the Thailand- Laos border and it overlooks the might Mekong River, not a bad place to end an epic trip.
